Logitech Notebook Cooling Pad N100 is a no-brainer when it comes to setting it up and using the product. All you need is to plug the USB cord inside your laptop’s USB port and you’re set. As function goes, Logitech Notebook Cooling Pad is a laptop desk stand with an integrated cooling fan, USB powered that does exactly what the name says: cools down the bottom of your laptop and allows you to use it on a bed, on a desk or on your lap without having to worry about heat.

The Logitech Notebook Cooling Pad N100 is available in two colors: white and gray and is build from a plastic compound, but doesn’t feel cheap or weak at all. Logitech always uses good plastics for their products, and this definitely shows right now. One thing we don’t like about this laptop cooling stand is that it’s not powerful enough to cool down gaming laptops, because it uses only one fan, positioned on the top middle part of the pad.

Logitech Notebook Cooling Pad N100

Also because it doesn’s support 17 inch models you can see it’s not for gaming laptops at all. For the rest of us it’s great. The fan is low noise, even if it doesn’t feature a speed adjustment knob of any kind. The air intake is situated on the back of the cooling pad, so you don’t have to worry about blocking it. Four rubber pads are used to keep the laptop from sliding while in use.

We would have loved to see an USB hub on the Logitech Notebook Cooling Pad N100 but that would have increased the price of the cooling pad, which at 29.99$ is pretty competitive. You can get yours from Amazon, in both white or gray finish if you feel the need for a quality cooling pad that doubles also as a laptop stand.

Cooler Master Notepal U2 is one of the most futuristic looking cooling laptop stand I’ve ever seen. It’s like it was developed by Mad Max himself as the general design looks very industrial (sorry ladies, it won’t match any pink laptop). In essence, the Cooler Master Notepal U2 is a laptop cooling pad with two removable fans that can be placed anywhere under the meshed grill that holds the laptop.

This interesting feature allows you to position the two fan exactly where your laptop gets hotter, thus cooling the essential (and expensive) components. The whole base is inclined to a small angle so that your hands will sit comfortably while typing. The angle is not adjustable. Two rubber pads ensure your laptop doesn’t slip off during use.

Cooler Master Notepal U2

The meshed grill of the base also ensured proper air conviction that alone could lower the temperature of your laptop’s bottom without any cooling fans. And because the base is made from aluminum there’s proper heat dissipation from direct contact too. The maximum allowed laptop diagonal is 17 inches, but also 14 and 15 models are accepted. Both 80 mm fans are powered by an USB port of your laptop because a splitter is used, so you won’t lose all your ports.

All in all, the Cooler Master Notepal U2 cooling laptop stand is one of the nicest models around and can be purchased from Amazon for a mere 18$.

If you’re into PCs you sure have heard of water cooling units that offer better performance compared to air cooling heatsinks, but are harder to mount, present the danger of water leaking on the components and are more expensive. Nonetheless, watercooling is a nice thing to have if you can afford it. Someone (SonData) though of bringing this concept to laptop cooling stands and even made a working product called F11124-ASL-1.

Yeap, you heard that right: a watercooler pad for laptops. Why I think this is madness? Well, I’m sure a water cooler has all the chances to cool down the aluminum body of the F11124-ASL-1 but from here to cooling a laptop there’s a small thing called ‘low contact surface’. Almost all laptops today feature rubber pads to raise them from the surface of your desk. The idea is to get some air beneath your laptop to cool down hot components.

Water cooling notebook pad concept

In the case of SonData F11124-ASL-1, a raised laptop means no contact between the bottom of the notebook and the cooling pad (or little contact), so that cool aluminum goes to waste, or if you’re lucky enough gets just a few degrees lower temperature, that’s it. Below is a scheme with the internal components of SonData F11124-ASL-1 that better illustrate what I wrote above. So my conclusion is pretty easy to spot: innovation that doesn’t help too much.

Connectland is not a renown name in the computer peripheral business but they do build cheap products, like the CL-NBC-3F4U cooling pad with an amazing number of fan: not less than three, all powered via one USB port from your laptop. You’ll not lose that port as Connectland CL-NBC-3F4U features a 4 ports USB hub, more than enough for you to go crazy with peripherals.

Unfortunately the USB connectors are not powered which means you won’t be able to hook up things like external hard drives, but just peripherals that don’t consume too much power like USB mices, keyboards, printers and flash drives.

Connectland CL-NBC-3F4U

About the 3 fans, if you look carefully at the design of Connectland CL-NBC-3F4U you see that there’s room for 3 more fans, which will for sure have increased the cooling capabilities but with the expense of more noise, which a lot of people hate, so the decision to stick with only three fans is the right one. Two rubber pads on the upper par of the laptop cooling stand ensure a suitable contact between it and the laptop’s bottom so it won’t fell of during normal use. Connectland CL-NBC-3F4U can accommodate laptops with diagonals from 12 to 17 inch, a really broad range which will suit many users.

As you might understand the term laptop cooling stand it’s about something that uses a fan (or a pair of fans) to cool down your laptop while working. Not in the case of ThermaPAK Heatshift, an ingenious product that uses special designed PCM crystals that at room temperature are solid but once heated by your laptop through direct contact they turn onto liquid form and absorb the heat thus cooling down the notebook, increasing component life and so on, you know all those things already.

It’s clear what advantages ThermaPAK brings to the table: silent operation, no power consumption and efficient cooling (think watercoolers versus fan coolers in modern PCs). The question that you might want to ask is: will it really work or it’s just marketing talk behind ThermaPAK statements? Well, I’m happy to report that Slashgear managed to test it and the conclusion is that it really works, managing to cool down a MacBook Pro running HD videos in just two minutes. Also it is very comfortable to use on your lap thanks to the foam layer on the bottom, but remember that you can always use it on a desk just like a regular laptop desk stand.

ThermaPAK Laptop Cooling HeatShift Pad

Now, about ergonomics, there are a lot of sizes to choose from: 10, 13, 15 and 17 inch but you can always go the safe way and get the bigger one if you don’t mind the ThermaPAK Heatshift bulging out of your laptop’s base. As color choice you can pick the black, white or pink version. Not too varied but also not too limiting choice. Even if we’re talking about an innovative technology I’m happy to report that it is not very expensive and that’s always a good thing, as a premium product will always appeal to less consumers than a mainstream one.

Prices vary from 24 to 35 dollars according to what size and color you choose. You can always pick them up from Amazon’s website if you’re interested. If you do please let us know how it works by leaving a comment below.

If you take a look out there at all the laptop stands available you immediately realize that most of them feature the same design, with small variation, and that’s understandable: why change something that works, right? Well, Targus surely doesn’t seem to agree as they’ve just released the Targus Lap Chipp Mat cooling pad, which features a wedge design, ventilated mesh and dual cooling fan system. It even accommodates big 17 inch gaming laptops with ease, it raises the screen thanks to its inclined surface and cools them by drawing air from beneath the laptop through the side openings and directs it where it helps your laptop the most: under it, where hot components sit.

You could use the Targus Lap Chill Mat (AWE55US) on your lap or on a desk without any problems. Four rubber pads make sure your laptop won’t slip off and the ventilated mesh ensures some air gets through from natural convection even when the two fans are not powered via USB. I would have loved to see adjustable fan speed on this baby, but it’s not the case, nor a power On/Off switch but that’s not a problem: just take off the USB cable and you have complete silence (if you don’t count your laptop’s fans).

Targus Laptop Chill Mat looks business

As of build quality, the Targus Lap Chill Mat unit is covered by neoprene which ensures good grip and also adds waterproof and other liquids proteciton, but I don’t advise putting the two fans under water. I personally also love the business look in this laptop cooling stand but you might want to check with your girlfriend if you want the give her as a gift. If you’re interested in one you can get it from Amazon for as little as 30$ and that’s a bargain for what it offers.

Belkin is one of those accessories manufacturers that put a lot of effort to make their devices look good no matter what type of peripheral you’re talking about. That’s also the case with the latest addition, the F5L055 Laptop Cooling Pad, an update to the Belkin Laptop Cooling Launge we’ve already reviewed here at LaptopStandSet.com.

The new design is slimmer, slick looking and features the AirFlow plane wing design patented by Belkin. What this basically means is a curved profile that makes room under the laptop where the USB powered fan blows air towards the CPU/memory area of your portable. Cold air comes from beneath and gets out warmed up on the sides of your notebook. The Belkin F5L055 Laptop Cooling Pad also acts as a laptop desk stand, as the back is raised by an U shaped foot (which also allows cool air to reach the fan).

The black version of Belkin F5L055 Laptop Cooling pad

Belkin F5L055 Laptop Cooling Pad is made from plastic and comes in black or white versions. Two rubber grip pads ensure your laptop doesn’t slip off the pad. There are no stoppers so you can use any size laptop as long as you can hold it on your lap, plus front ports remain clear. Simplicity is the word that best describes Belkin’s design.

The included fan is not adjustable in speed, which is a petty, but at least is USB powered with a cable supplied by Belking that can be tucked away in a secret compartment when not in use. There are no distracting status LEDs.

Belkin says the F5L055 Laptop Cooling Pad will be available sometime in April, but you can already preorder it from Amazon for just 25$ (4$ cheaper than on Belkin’s website).

Antec Notebook Cooler is not a laptop stand per say, because it’s not adjustable, but it raises your laptop by a few centimeters and that’s always good.

As construction goes, the case is made of plastic, while the top is from aluminum, not painted so that it keeps its silver looks. Two 80 mm fans are placed under and draw air from two special cut openings. Contact with table is made with the four feet placed at corners. A small switch adjusts speed of the two fans from Low to High so you can choose silence over cooling, depending on your usage scenario.

Nice shape for Antec Notebook Cooler

Power comes from a pass through USB cable stored in a small compartment under Antec Notebook Cooler so you can still use your USB gadgets, but remember that you won’t be able to power an external hard drive while also powering the two fans. A blue status LED let’s you know when the device is powered and when not.

From ergonomics point of view, there are no rubber stoppers to help make contact between the laptop and the cooling pad, as Antec relies on notebook’s own rubber feet to make contact. This is not a problem, mainly because rubber makes good contact with aluminum and the cooling pad is now inclined so there’s nothing to slip. Antec Notebook Cooler weights only 730 grams so it’s no burden to carry it around with you. Almost any size laptop will fit on it and two fans ensure good cooling even for hotter laptops like the lately Core i7 models.

It’s hard not to like the Antec Notebook Cooler, especially because it costs just 26$.

Evercool is a pretty known Taiwanese manufacturer that has a focus on cooling solution, so I bet you already know what I’m going to present now: a laptop cooling stand, the NP-501. This particular model comes with two 80 mm cooling fans that are unfortunately non adjustable in speed, but they use a special Ever Lubricate bearing type developed by Evercool that’s supposed to offer long life and adequate noise. I wouldn’t call them silent as both run at 2000 RPM but I bet they’re less noisy than a gaming laptop in full load, which is what you’ll probably use with Evercool NP-501 which is good for up to 17 inch diagonal laptops.

Evercook NP-501 comes in two colors

As of design there’s not much to say here, we have a plastic shell with some SciFi drawings around the two fans but it’s not what you could call stylish. I don’t thing this is an important feature to look for in a cooling stand, as the main function is not to look nice, especially if you use a big notebook that covers the laptop pad entirely. As a side note, the two fans suck air from beneath your laptop and expel it on the left and right side through 4 vent holes.

Being made from plastic there are also some advantages, like low weight: despite its big size, 68 x 43 x 27 cm, it only weights 779 grams. This makes it ideal if you travel a lot with your gaming laptop, to LAN parties and such. Both fans are powered via one of your laptop’s USB ports, which you’ll lose this way, but that’s hardly an issue these days.

Given the under 30$ price on Amazon, I can only recommend Evercool NP-501, either black or silver version.

If you’re into computers and gadgets you must have heard of Zalman, one of the big manufacturers when it comes to cooling solutions, cases, power supplies and accessories. Zalman ZM-NC2000 is a laptop cooling stand made of aluminum and plastic, which uses two fans to keep cool the bottom of your laptop. It’s available in silver and black versions. It’s not a classic desk stand because it doesn’t raise the height of the screen more than a few centimeters, but it can be used as a lap stand, on the bed or on a sofa, keeping heat away from you during prolonged usage.

Features

Being a product from a big cooling manufacturer the ZM-NC2000 comes with a speed adjustment controller that allows you to adjust the power supplied to the two fans, thus controlling noise and cooling. Both fans have the same specs: speed ranging from 1000 to 1500 RPM.

Black always looks good

The part of the cooling stand that makes contact with your laptop is made from aluminum and features a whooping 928 holes that let cool air sucked from both sides of the stand by fans to get where it’s needed. On both sides of the stand there is one USB port that makes it easy to connect other peripherals to your laptop, but one will be taken away as a USB cable, nicely hidden beneath a plastic door, is used to power the two fans. A status LED let’s you know if the system is On or Off (there’s a button for that too or you can unplug the USB cable).

Zalman ZM-NC2000 has a slim profile

The height of Zalman ZM-NC2000 can be adjusted just like in a keyboard, by raising two small legs from behind it. The laptop is held nicely in place by two rubber bands placed on the aluminum contact surface. You’re not limited to the size of screen and can safely use any kind of laptop you like. If you can hold it then the Zalman ZM-NC2000 can too.

Pricing and availability

Zalman is not a cheap manufacturer, and you feel the ZM-NC2000 in your pocket, as it currently sells for about 68$ on Amazon. Alternatively you can go for the ZM-NC1000 that sells for 48$ and is similar built. I guess Zalman is worth the money anyway as it doesn’t compere with the price you would have to pay for notebook repair due to damage caused by heat.

Lots of connectors for a laptop stand
