What laptop usage positions are better for your health

In a previous article  we were talking about the medical reasons to use a laptop stand that we have to consider when asking “why do we need a laptop desk stand?”. On core77.com, professor Dave Malouf presents the result of a study made by his students, that shows us the exquisite pains caused by the positions that we have when using a netbook/laptop.

The positions we adopt when using mini notebooks (netbooks) or laptops are various and most of them causes pain: even if you lie down with your mini notebook backed on your thigh or on your stomach or sit down in bed or on a chair or if you stand up with your netbook in hand or on a table, almost every time you will feel an exquisite pain after a while, but knowing each position what causes might help us choose the best one (or the least worst to be correct).

Researchers considered especially the smaller devices and found that “a conventional small clamshell laptop is most comfortably used lying down in bed with the device on the thigh when the knees are kept up”. So, the conclusion is that, when you work on a laptop, you have to choices: or to have a bed with pillows at your office instead of a desk, or to buy a laptop stand for your desk, in order to prevent the pain that can occur when using the laptop in “bad” positions. There’s also the alternative of not using a laptop, or just occasionally, but I’m sure you’ll never do that.
